EIGHT men who were involved in a disturbance in Cardigan last year have all been handed community orders.

They all appeared before magistrates at Aberystwyth Justice Centre to plead guilty to a charge of using or threatening unlawful violence in the town on the night of November 19.

Seven of the men involved - Rhys Washington Brown, aged 19, of Blaen Treweryll, Blaenffos; Macally Daniel Evans, aged 22, of Anghorfa, Feidir Henfford, Cardigan; Rhys Michael Jones, aged 20, of Felin Ban, Cardigan; Joshua Kevin Mellor, aged 18, of Bro Teifi, Cardigan; Iwan Sion Phillips, aged 20, of Lleine Farm, Ferwig; Dafydd Wyn Rotie, aged 19 of Maes yr Haf, Cardigan and Steffan Rhys Williams, aged 26, of Aberystwyth Road, Cardigan – were ordered to carry out 65 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months as part of the community order.

Six of the seven will also each have to pay £85 in costs and £85 victim surcharge, except Williams who will have to pay £65 costs and a £65 victim surcharge.

The eighth man, Luke Tristan Daniel Griffiths, aged 23, of Pendre, Cardigan, has been electronically tagged and must observe a 28-day curfew between 7pm and 7am, along with a 12-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
