THE first abandoned boat has been moved from St Dogmaels side of the River Teifi - with the threat of more to follow.
Councillors at St Dogmaels are keen to clear up the area around the pumping station mound at the Pinnog, which has long been considered something of an eyesore as well as a danger.
The community council posted legal notice that it intended to start a clear-up and that process has now begun with the removal of the first boat from the area.
“We served notice on three other boats being kept down there,” said Cllr Phil Hutchings.
“Word went round the village pretty quickly and within two days, two of them had gone. There is also an old trailer and launching trolley we have served notice on and we are gradually working our way through what’s down there.
“We will get rid of the dangerous stuff first and we are also looking at serving notice on abandoned canoes that are down there and they will also be removed. Many of them are not even secured.
“They can be taken away, stored and then sold at auction to cover the council’s costs.”
Council chairman Cllr Jo Hutchings said: “Those canoes are so dangerous. If children play in them and they get carried away on the tide, there are too many scenarios to think about.”
