FRIENDS and family helped make the recent platinum wedding celebration of Idris and Morfydd Thomas all the more memorable and enjoyable by getting together for afternoon tea at Cilgerran Village Hall.

Tegryn-born Idris and Morfydd, who hails from Boncath, were married on July 15, 1948 at Blaenffos Baptist Chapel.

They have remained faithful members of the chapel ever since. The popularly known and respected couple have lived locally all their lives.

For many years until retirement, Idris worked as a fireman at the former RAE, Aberporth. A keen gardener and avid follower of sport in general, he is especially keen on rugby.

While Morfydd’s interests in the main revolve around the family and home, she like her husband is a keen gardener and also takes considerable interest in sport.

She is also active with the local women’s group, Merched y Wawr and since the Second World War has been involved with WVS, later to become the WRVS and now locally at Clwb y Freni.

The couple have three children, Lyndon, Alan and Brenda, and it is their making their respective marks in rugby and hockey that has done much to account for their parents’ interest in this sphere.

Mr and Mrs Thomas also take considerable pride in their six grandchildren and especially their seven great-grandchildren.

It really made their day that they were all able to join with them in their special anniversary celebration.
