FLOODING in Cardigan today (Monday July 16) could be the thin end of the wedge.
An area in the lower St Mary’s Street area of the town was left under water following a 20-minute downpour, with the water, which also contained sewage, only millimetres from flooding a flat owned by Christine James.
“It rained heavily for about 20 minutes but in no way could you call this a cloudburst,” said Christine, who has been in contact with Ceredigion County Council regarding the problem but feels she is not getting any answers.
“But within minutes the water was coming up from the drains and there was sewage in it as well. It was so close to going in the flat.
“The drains were blocked and I believe it all comes down to a lack of maintenance. The drains are full of debris and if this is happening now, we really are going to have problem once it starts raining heavily.
“This had nothing to do with the river or a high tide.
“It seems we are living in the land that time forgot in Cardigan and no-one is doing anything. The flat was empty for a year following a previous flood and it seems we are almost back to square one with the problems.”
