AN open day is to being held at Beulah School next week as part of the campaign to save it from closure.

Beulah Primary School, along with neighbouring Trewen Primary School, could be shut as part of a review being carried out by Ceredigion County Council.

A recent report to the learning communities overview and scrutiny committee said that closing the two schools would save around £155,000.

Parents at Beulah are convinced that if they can raise pupil numbers registered to start in September 2018 they will have a strong case for keeping the school open.

Group spokesman Carol Pickford said: “With this in mind, we are having an open day next Tuesday (July 17) from 3.30pm until 6.30pm for prospective new parents to visit the school, meet the teachers and parents, find out more about the ethos of Beulah school and see for themselves the facilities on offer.

“The fundraising continues to develop and at the present time we are ahead of schedule regarding our fundraising efforts at the car boots and private donations, raising to date over £1,000 over the last two to three weeks.

“The public support we have encountered at the local car boot in Beulah over the last two weekends has been overwhelming and we would like to thank everyone for their support to date.

“The parents and teachers of the school have shown real commitment to the cause and councillor Lyndon Lloyd has been instrumental in helping open up dialogue with the council and has shown his continued support for the Save Beulah School Campaign.”
