CARDIGAN got its first taste of Central American food yesterday (Thursday, July 12 ) as the town’s latest eatery opened its doors.

Award-winning El Salsa is now open for business serving traditional Mexican street food at its 4CG site at Pwllhai.

Restaurant owner Laura Elsaesser is a familiar sight to many in the town already as she has traded from her mobile catering van at venues and events in the Cardigan area over the past few years.

So successful has the venture been that El Salsa won the accolade of best Mexican establishment at the fourth annual Food Awards Wales earlier this year.

And now Laura, 31, from Blaenporth, has taken the plunge to open a new restaurant/takeaway.

“It has been a lot of hard work to get this far but we did it and I am so excited,” said Laura, a former Cardigan Secondary School pupil.

“The first night went well and everyone has been so supportive.

“I think it will be good for the town to have a new restaurant and with Crwst alongside, hopefully it will get people out and about in the area.

“All our food is home-made, with everything made from scratch. It’s traditional Mexican street food, such as tacos, burritos and fajitas.”
