AN end could finally be in sight for the on-going Maesglas play area saga in Cardigan.

A meeting of the town council has been told that Ceredigion MP Ben Lake had written to Tai Ceredigion, the owners of the site, asking that the land be given to the residents for continued use by local children.

But while Tai Ceredigion chief executive Steve Jones rejected that appeal, he did indicate that the organisation would be prepared to lease the site to the town council on a 30-year lease at a peppercorn rent.

That could then be renewed at a future date.

Cllr John Adams-Lewis said: “I think we should get together and discuss this lease with them, the sooner the better.

“While this drags on, the residents there are losing out on the chance to apply for grants but they are raising funds all the time. We need to sort out this lease for them.”

The North Cardigan Action and Support Group has long been campaigning to reinstate the playground.
