THE Urdd Carnival at Newcastle Emlyn again proved popular as the crowds flocked to the town's football club field.

A heavy downpour just before the start failed to dampen spirits, and while entries in some classes were slightly down on last year, the sports and barbecue were a bit hit.

Organiser Wendy Daniel said: "Unfortunately, we clashed with other events this year but the parade was very popular and the sports events all went down very, very well. Seeing everyone enjoying themselves made it all worthwhile."

The fun continues throughout the rest of this week with the historic Bryndioddef Race on Tuesday, June 19, starting from the football club at 6pm. It costs £2 to enter and an adult must run with all children of year 1 and under who enter.

On Wednesday, June 20 there is a car treasure hunt starting at 6pm from outside the football club gates at the Mart car park. It is £5 entry per car, with £20 to the winners.

The children’s carnival disco takes place on Friday, June 22 from 6pm-8.30pm at Newcastle Emlyn Rugby Club.
