TWINNING links are going to be even more important after Brexit according to Cardigan twinning chairman Catrin Miles.

Speaking at a reception at the biannual Foire Expo in Brioude, Cardigan’s French twin town, Cllr Miles said at the next Foire in 2020, Britain will have left the EU.

“Our twinning links will be even more important especially for our young people,” she said.

She added that Cardigan had formed links with Brioude in 1972 - the French town’s first twinning partner.

“We pre-dated the EU and we shall continue afterwards,” she said to loud applause from the audience, which included representatives from Brioude’s other twin towns in Germany, Italy and Portugal.

Cardigan twinning committee is now planning to strengthen links starting with the local school in Brioude.

With the 50th anniversary in 2022, the twinning committee want to increase numbers visiting Brioude and are appealing for anyone interested in getting involved to contact minutes secretary Sue Lewis at suelewis8@gmail.com
