A MISSING pensioner was found by a police dog after emergency services launched a search on the Pembrokeshire section of the coastal path around Newport on Saturday night (May 5).

The 72-year-old man had got lost on the coast path between Newport and Dinas.

He had become disorientated in thick sea mist and was unable to establish his location.

The man was diabetic and had not eaten for six hours. He did not have a torch with him and could not establish his location.

Moylegrove coastguards and the police were involved in the search. The man was able to give a stile number which gave rescuers an indication of his whereabouts.

The man was found by police dog Thea and her handler miles from where he thought he was.

He was hypothermic and hungry but was soon taken to safety and was reported as safe and well by Dyfed-Powys police dog handling team.
