Drivers in Ceredigion will welcome the news that almost £1.2million in extra funding has been made available to improve the county’s roads. Ceredigion County Council’s cabinet discussed a Welsh Government grant payment of £1,191.165 to be spent on improving local highways. Cabinet member for technical services and corporate services Cllr Ray Quant told the meeting on Tuesday, April 17, that of the 2,265km of roads in Ceredigion 11 per cent or 265km were considered in poor condition. The money will be spent on A, B and C class roads and not trunk roads as they are the responsibility of the Trunk Road Agency. Although specified for the financial year 2017/18 dispensation has been given to spend the money in the current year, due to the offer of the grant coming so close to the end of the year. Council leader Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn added the highway department would be “very grateful for it, I’m sure it will be a great help.”
