POLICE are appealing for help from witnesses following the discovery of two bodies on the coastal path near New Quay earlier this week but do not believe the circumstances to be suspicious.

The bodies of a man and woman were found on the Ceredigion coastal path on Wednesday evening following a huge search involving police, coastguard teams, a search and rescue helicopter and the town’s two RNLI crews.

Dyfed-Powys Police senior investigating officer Superintendent Ross Evans, said: “The police investigation in to the sudden death of a man and woman, whose bodies were found on the coastal path near New Quay, is ongoing, and our sympathies are with their families at this sad time.

“Post mortems have been carried out today (April 6), and while the cause of the two deaths remains unexplained, the circumstances are not believed to be suspicious.

“I am appealing for anyone who was walking along the coastal path around Coybal Farm, near New Quay, or who was on the water near that area, between 6pm and midnight on Sunday, April 1, to speak to police by calling 101.

“I’d like to thank the local community for their support and patience while we work to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident, and extend that thanks to the police officers, and Coastguard, who have been working hard in challenging weather conditions since Wednesday.”
