NEW Quay's all-weather lifeboat was launched yesterday morning (Thursday, February 27) to help a crew member of a fishing vessel eight miles off the Ceredigion coastline.

A man on board the Kingfisher had suffered a severe asthma attack due to the extreme cold weather and required urgent evacuation.

The all-weather lifeboat, which is under threat of being replaced by an inshore lifeboat following an RNLI review of cover in the Cardigan Bay area, was launched at around 9am yesterday morning,

Medical advice relayed by Milford Haven Coastguard stressed that the casualty should be kept inside the lifeboat's wheelhouse and the importance of keeping him warm at all times.

Helicopter evacuation was not possible due to the cold weather and the casualty's condition.
