YSGOL Y Preseli, Ysgol Bro Teifi and Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn secondary schools and Eglwyswrw, Ysgol Bro Ingli and Ysgol Y Fgrennis primary schools were closed this morning due to the icy conditions.

Roads around the north east of Pembrokeshire and into Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire are reported as quite bad with ice a major hazard. Traffic is moving but HGV are having difficulties on hills.

A spokesman for Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn said: “Due to staffing issues caused by snow and ice we have had to make the decision to close the school today.”

Police were called to deal with a four-vehicle accident on the A487 at Eglwyswrw yesterday evening, with the council contacted to re grit the treacherous road. No-one was hurt in the crash.

A few scattered sleet and snow showers will break out this morning, with road surface temperatures being slow to recover above zero. Showers will peter out leaving a largely dry afternoon with sunny spells.

This evening will remain dry with clear spells, however cloud will spill in form the west during the course of the night with a few spots of light rain developing towards dawn.
