TWO intrepid fundraisers from Cardigan raised £3,205 for Diabetes UK by walking the length of the London Marathon.

Pam Morris, 57, and Paul Davies, 60, joined 500 other people for the London Marathon Walk on September 23. The 26.2-mile route took walkers past some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge.

The duo started walking from Chiswick at 8am and completed their trek in just under 10 hours, taking only a short break for some food. They finished the walk at 6pm and were met by Paul’s daughter Steph Davies and her partner Dean at the finish line.

Pam and Paul are part of the Cardigan Charity Fundraising Appeal, which has raised over £25,000 for local charitable causes over the last four years.

They decided to fundraise for Diabetes UK as both of their families have been affected by the condition and now all the cash has been collected, the total stood at more than £3,200.

Paul said: “Pam and I had a fantastic time on the walk. The weather was perfect, and we got lots of positive comments for walking with our Welsh flag.

“It was a huge challenge for us mentally and physically, but we’d been training since March so were well prepared. We especially liked that the route was flat. Pam doesn’t like hills!

“We are both thrilled that we managed to raise so much money for such an important cause. We had such a good experience that we have signed up to do the walk again next year and hopefully we’ll be able to beat our time.”

Joseph Cuff, fundraising manager for Diabetes UK Cymru said: “We’re so grateful to Paul and Pam for their marathon effort in London. Their fundraising will help us to make a difference to the lives of people living with diabetes in Wales.

“More than seven per cent of the population of Wales has diabetes, the highest prevalence in the UK. By supporting Diabetes UK Cymru you can help fund vital diabetes research, and provide information and services to help make a difference to their lives.”
