DRIVING rain and wind failed to deter the hardy souls at Newcastle Emlyn’s annual Victorian Evening on Wednesday night (December 6).

Stalls lined the streets, mulled wine was on offer in the shops and there was plenty of mince pies to enjoy at the event as businesses stayed open late and embraced the Victorian theme by donning their best costumes and decorating their premises.

Santa’s grotto at Cawdor Hall certainly proved a big hit with the kids and the only disappointment was that the weather conditions meant the shire horse cart rides had to be cancelled.

Newcastle Emlyn Traders chairman Jill Sutton said: “I was astonished so many people braved the awful weather but it goes to show what a well-established and joyful event it is.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all those who turned out and to those who helped organise the night. It is really nice to see the local community supporting such an event.

“The presentations at the Emlyn Hotel at the end of the night were fantastic and on behalf of the Traders I would like to thank them and Newcastle Emlyn Rugby Club Choir for rounding off a fabulous evening.”

One of the organisers, Odette Little said: “A lot of work goes into the evening and I would like to thank all those who give up their time for nothing to help out.

“Despite the weather, we were very pleased with the way things went.”
