WANT to have your say on how to improve the travel network around Newcastle Emyln and make it safer for walking, running, cycling and pedestrians?

Well now you have your chance with a public consultation by Carmarthenshire County Council which is to be staged at Cawdor Hall Gallery (the Clocktower) in the town on Wednesday, November 22 from 6pm-7.30pm.

The scheme is part of the Welsh Government’s Safer Routes in Communities project and both the town council and Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn governors and head teacher have been working closely together on this, alongside the county council.

The Safer Routes scheme aims to make it easier for people to travel around their communities and prioritises programmes aimed at improving access to schools.

A total of £5.5m in grants is available for 2017-18 to be distributed across 20 local authority areas and the Newcastle Emlyn bid has already cleared a couple of hurdles.

The scheme can fund such projects as crossings, traffic calming measures, cycle paths, footpath improvements and secure cycling facilities including lockers and changing facilities.
