A BRYNHOFFNANT author is celebrating after winning the 2017 Wales Book of the Year prize for the best book in the Welsh language.

Cofio Dic – Darn o’r Haul Draw yn Rhywle by Idris Reynolds picked up the prestigious prize at a special awards ceremony in Cardiff on Monday, November 13

Jonathan Lewis, managing director of publishers Gomer, which has offices in Llandysul and Carmarthen, congratulated Idris on winning the literature prize.

“It is fantastic that this book which celebrates the life and work of Dic Jones - one of our best-known and best-loved poets – is being acknowledged with this important literary prize,” said Mr Lewis.

“Gomer is extremely proud of what Idris has achieved in this highly-regarded book.”

There are many stories about Dic Jones that have become part of local legend and in this book, Idris, who lectures on Dic Jones all across Wales, pulls all the stories together into one volume.

The book follows Dic’s life from his early years to the end of his life – following the twists and turns in his career and the source of his inspiration.

It celebrates the warmth and talent of the man who could express the feelings of the Welsh nation better than anybody. He wrote with an emotion and humour which became an essential part of his legacy.
