A CARDIGAN community midwife will complete an epic six months of fund-raising when she flies out to India today (Friday, October 6) to tackle a demanding Himalayan trek.

Mum-of-three Claire Tregear, from Llandysul, will be with two other community midwives from the area as she looks to raise money for Marie Curie.

Claire has already raised more than £3,300 for the charity after undertaking a series of adventures and the three midwives together hope to raise a final total of around £14,000.

She walked the 60-mile Ceredigion Coastal Path in one go in just over 24 hours on the hottest day of the year back in June.

The 35-year-old has also completed a skydive - even though she is terrified of heights - and hiked up to Snowdon summit twice in one day using two different routes.

“The Himalayan trek is the final challenge,” said Claire.“It has been full on trying to raise money and fitting the training in around work, kids and I've also been doing up my house in the middle of it all and hoping to move in when I'm back.

“It is the first time I will have been away from my kids and I know that is going to be so tough, coupled with the challenge of trekking at altitude. We will be sleeping in little orange tents, no showers or ability to wash my hair, so it definitely won't be a trip of luxury.

“I am doing this in memory of a colleague who died. Also, I used to be a nurse and cared for terminally ill patients and the work Marie Curie does is so important and needs out support.

“Every penny will ensure the Marie Curie team can continue supporting and providing excellent care to those with all terminal illnesses in their own home or in a hospice, as well as supporting their families”

“I am looking to raise £3,500 and all the money will go to the local community in the Cardigan and Llandysul areas. Every penny counts and will help spur me on.”

Claire has set up a Justgiving page and anyone wishing to sponsor her can go to justgiving.com/fundraising/claire-tregear or text a donation to 70070 with the code CEIR60 and then the amount you wish to donate.
