STAFF, volunteers and visitors were joined by Assembly Member Joyce Watson to celebrate 25 years of Jig-So.

The Cardigan children’s charity marked the milestone with a free party at St Dogmaels’ Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 16.

The charity delivers support services to children and their families in Ceredigion, north Pembrokeshire and west Carmarthenshire.

Linda Grace, the organisation’s chairman of trustees invited Mrs Watson, a long-time supporter, to speak at the event. The Labour Mid and West Wales AM paid tribute to staff and volunteers, past and present.

“I am delighted to celebrate this wonderful anniversary with you all. I used to live in St Dogmaels – I appreciate just how important the service is to the community,” said Mrs Watson.

“Thanks to the hard work and commitment of staff and volunteers, past and present, Jig-So has supported generations of children – and their families – in all sorts of ways. May it continue to do so for generations to come.”

St Dogmaels Community Council vice-chairman Jo Hutchings also praised the work of the charity and thanked all those who attended the event.

Earlier this year the charity, which is based at Old Britannia Stores and runs satellite sessions in St Dogmaels and Llechryd, secured nearly £500,000 from Big Lottery Fund for a five-year ‘Healthier Families-Resilient Communities’ project, part of its work to address rural poverty.

Jig-So also runs four European-funded project, including a holiday kitchen scheme, and has previously been backed by Children in Need and Comic Relief.

The organisation is currently participating in Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ scheme, asking customers of the Cardigan store to vote for its sensory garden project.
