A battling performance by Newcastle Emlyn the previous Saturday in springing a narrow victory over Tata Steel was forgotten as the Teifisiders went down 33-20 against Cardiff Met in the capital.

There were those who felt Emlyn were guilty of errors and handed the verdict on a plate to the students, but that would downplay a fluent performance by the Cardiffians with outside half George Simpson the chief orchestrator with superb kicking from hand and excellent play in releasing

the backline.

Centre Tom Morgan landed a straightforward early penalty for the students and lock Alex Domrandt charged over for a try converted by Morgan.

The west Walians replied with a try stemming from a lineout when skipper and hooker Alex Williams got the touchdown for fullback Dan Davies to convert.

Met hooker Shawn Howard went over for a try converted by Morgan who also added a penalty.

After good work by the forwards Emlyn notched a second try before the interval when lock Dyfed Morgan barged over and Morgan added the extras.

With Emlyn No. 8 Brynmor Jones in the sin bin for a scrummaging offence early in the second period Morgan extended the home lead with another penalty.

As the final quarter approached two Davies penalties put the visitors back in contention but the students finished strongly for replacement Luke Northmore to scythe through the defence for a fine try under the posts and Morgan inevitably converted.

The League 1 West game between Crymych and Gorseinon and the National Bowl round one tie between Ferryside and Cardigan were postponed.
