THERE are shock waves in Cardigan after the pub death of a popular local character who is believed to have choked while eating a takeaway meal.

Dai ‘Radar’ Rees, aged 51, whose mother lives on the Maesglas estate, and who had other family members in the town, lived alone in a flat at Feidrfair.

It is understood that Mr Rees, popularly known as ‘Dai Radar’ was taken suddenly ill at the Lamb Inn at Finch Square on Saturday evening.

Paramedics, police officers and fire service personnel attended but Mr Rees is understood to have died at the scene.

Lamb Inn landlord Jamie Bowen told the Tivy-Side “It all happened so quickly and we couldn’t help him. The emergency services were here in double quick time, but unfortunately it was too late.

“Dai, known to everyone as ‘Radar’ because of his small ears, would do anything for you and was held in the highest esteem by people from all walks of life.”

A police spokesman said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a sudden death of a 51-year-old at the Lamb Inn public house, Cardigan, at 10.10pm on Saturday, 9 September 2017.

"Next of kin and HM Coroner are aware. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
