THE entrance to St Dogmaels has been branded as ‘disgusting’ by one angry resident who fears it could put off visitors and gives a bad first impression.

“The disgusting weed-strewn entrance to the village of St Dogmaels – and right there beside signs for the Tuesday market and the Abbey - is appalling,” says Tim Richards.

“I know budgets from national government down are tight but this must be sorted out or tourists and visitors will think the residents of St Dogmaels are a shower of scumbags.”

Mr Richards has taken pictures of the overgrown mess where Mill Street meets the main B4546 through the village and voiced his complaint to the Community Council.

“I offered to pay for and maintain a flag pole at this location some years ago but that was summarily discarded but I still care about the appearance of our village,” added Mr Richards.

“I remember Mal Thomas once telling me he used to maintain the planters etc in this corner of the village but was never given recompense for his spending.

“St Dogmaels is a pretty little village but the first thing visitors see as they come down the hill is a jungle of weeds. It’s a right mess.”

Highways are the responsibility of Pembrokeshire County Council and county councillor Mike James said he was aware of the situation and pressing for it to be sorted out.

“I have been chasing area maintenance to deal with it. I reported it by email about a month ago and I was approached by residents in Mill Street and David Street in the market on Tuesday to see what can be done," said Cllr James.

“It is an eyesore. This is the main entrance into the village and we need it dealt with as soon as possible.”
