CASTELL Henllys Iron Age Village is gearing up for a Roman invasion on August 19 and 20, with both days packed with live re-enactment, food and more.

Legio VIII Augusta MGV Roman Living History Society will be bringing their army to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority-owned site between Cardigan and Newport for a special weekend to celebrate this clash of cultures.

Castell Henllys manager, Jenn Jones said: “This wonderful weekend will provide a unique opportunity to see the Roman legionaries entering an Iron Age hill fort just as they would have done as they swept across Britain centuries ago.

“As well as the exciting demonstrations, people will be able to try out some of the weaponry for themselves and take part in a range of other Roman-themed events from 11am-5pm on both days.”

Arena displays at 11.30am and 2.30pm will feature the Roman invaders in all their finery. For budding bowmen there will also be a chance to try out a Roman bow or watch the legionaries shoot their artillery.

Other activities will include the chance to sample authentic cookery, see your name as it would have been written in Roman times and have your very own Roman coin made.

Tickets are £15 for adults, £10 for children, £12 for concessions and £40 family tickets (for two adults and two children).

Booking is advisable for these two special days to avoid disappointment. To book call 01239 891319 or email enquiries@castellhenllys.com.
