A SECOND public meeting has been staged in the fight to save the Tafarn Sinc pub from closure and turn it into a community-run venture.

The iconic Pembrokeshire venue in the village of Rosebush has been for sale for some time at an asking price of £295,000. The owners have said they will close the doors before Christmas whether the property is sold or not. There have been no bids so far.

A first public meeting at a packed Neuadd Maenclochog was held in early July and now a second meeting has taken place on Monday (August 14) to update residents on progress.

There were people there from as far afield as Llanelli, Carmarthen, St Davids and Fishguard such is the interest in saving the pub for the community and those present heard that £61,600 has been raised in little more than a month that the campaign has been active.

Shares priced at £200 are on offer and there are 1,876 to buy as the pub was built in 1876. That would cover the purchase price of the pub and working capital.

There are now numerous examples across the country of community ventures running successful pubs.

However, the clock is ticking on any proposed buy-out and at the meeting, all those local people who have said they want to buy shares but have not yet done so were urged to act quickly so that enough money can be raised to put in an offer - before it’s too late.
