YOUNGSTERS from the American Youth Harp Ensemble have been delighting audiences in Cardigan as part of their visit to West Wales.

The ensemble, led by renowned director Lynelle Ediger, joined former royal harpist and Crymych girl Claire Jones in a stunning live concert weekend held in partnership with Theatr Mwldan at Cardigan Castle.

More than 50 youngsters from the US state of Virginia stayed at the castle and visited the river and food festival as well as other tourist spots.

Claire also hosted her International Harp School at the castle with a group of talented young harpists from all over the UK as well as the Cardigan area.

Lynelle, who conducted the ensemble last year in front of US president Barack Obama, said the American party – which numbered nearly 100 – had thoroughly enjoyed their stay in the castle.

“We just loved Cardigan and the castle and were thoroughly impressed by its facilities and the five star accommodation. It’s a beautiful place to stay and the students were thrilled by all the history,” he said.
