OWEN Jones and Daniel Jay pushed themselves to the very limit as they completed their marathon fund-raising run of the Pembrokeshire coastal path in just eight days.

The pair ran from Amroth, near Tenby to Poppit Sands, St. Dogmaels, covering a distance of more than 300 kilometres (186 miles), running almost a marathon every day.

School friends Daniel and Owen had been planning the run for more than a year and had been training for the expedition for the last 12 months.

Owen said: “The run really tested us, both physically and mentally. The terrain on the coastline is so varied that we never knew what was around the next headland.

“The weather conditions also set challenges of its own, changing daily from uncomfortable hot sunny conditions to heavy rain, making the path very slippery under foot.

“The memorable moments included some spectacular sunsets over the Pembrokeshire coast, the support given by all that they met on their way and not forgetting the pain from swollen legs and blisters on feet!

“We would like to say a special thank you to the people of Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire for their generous donations. Also to the support team consisting of family and friends, tending to our needs and giving much-needed support when times got really tough.”

Their three chosen charities are The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), the Kadan’s Trust charity who supply equipment to the baby hospital at the Heath and also the Teacher’s Aid charity which works with underprivileged children in Africa.

The run finished at The Moorings, St Dogmaels where supporters gathered to welcome them home.
