TWO Cardigan men will push themselves to the limit this week as they attempt to run the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

Owen Jones and Daniel Jay started their run at Amroth, near Tenby, last Friday (July 21) and will be following the coastal path to Poppit Sands, St. Dogmaels in just eight days as part of a charity fund-raiser.

Not only will the pair be running more than 300 kilometres at an average distance of almost a marathon per day, but they will also be camping the nights once they reach their check points.

They have been planning this challenging journey for more than a year and have done several lengthy runs together to test their stamina, in the Brecon Beacons and on the Taff Trail, near Cardiff, where they now live.

Owen’s chosen charity is The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Growing up near the coast in Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, both Owen and Dan have always made use of the coastal facilities, surfing, water skiing and pleasure boating.

They have always been aware of the fantastic work that the RNLI lifeboat crews and the lifeguards do for those who need them.

Dan has two chosen charities, the Kadans Trust which supplies equipment to the baby hospital at the Heath, and also a charity which works with underprivileged children in Africa.

Friends and family are joining the pair for some sections of their run and they will be celebrating their anticipated finish on Friday at around 4pm with a gathering at The Ferry Inn, St Dogmaels. A welcome to all who would like to come along.

If you are able to give your support, donations are being received at The Queen’s Bakery, Pendre, Cardigan.
