A NEW family-run surf shop is set to open in Cardigan this week.

"Tonnau" in Pendre is the brainchild of local man Ben Robbins, who for the past couple of years has been the manager of the Saltrock store in the Guildhall Square.

Now Ben has decided the time is right to go it alone and with the support of his and wife Joanna’s families, they are busy transforming the old Tivy Sports premises in the town ahead of opening their new business on Saturday (July 22).

“It got to the point where it was time to do my own thing,” said Ben.

“We have had a lot of support from our families and I have been in this line of business for quite some time, having previously run a company in Cardiff before returning to Cardigan.

“I have been listening to what people want to buy and rather than try to compete with what’s already here, I want to try to do something a bit different focusing on watersports and fashion. We are all really excited.”

To celebrate the opening, they are running a postcard competition, looking for drawings, paintings or photographs of people’s favourite local beach.

The picture chosen will be transformed into a postcard to be sold in the shop, with a £50 voucher for the winning entry. Pictures can be emailed to Ben@Tonnausurf.com or slipped through the letter box at 8 Pendre but be quick because the closing date is July 19.
