IT was tough going but five Cardigan friends successfully walked the full 60 miles of the Ceredigion coastal path in one hit.

Builders merchants manager Mathew Morgan, teacher William Bowen, builder Gareth Owen, solicitor Alan Lewis and care director Neil Griffiths set out from Cardigan to undertake the continuous trek to Ynys Las to raise funds for three local worthy causes.

So far they have raised nearly £2,300 for Cardigan Cancer Care, Cardigan Swimming Pool and the local branch of the RNLI.

Neil said: “The path rises to more than 150 metres above sea level in places and the challenge of walking through the night on such a narrow walkway is not to be under-estimated.

“This event was far greater than we ever imagined and tested every member of the team to their limits.

“We finally arrived in Ynys Las around midday on Sunday having walked continuously for 60-plus miles along the most difficult terrain imaginable through searing heat and torrential rain.”
