A CARDIGAN playgroup is celebrating after achieving a top award for health and wellbeing.

Cylch Meithrin Aberteifi has recently completed all aspects of the Healthy and Sustainable Pre-schools Scheme by working with their children, staff and parents to improve nutrition and oral health, physical activity, emotional health and wellbeing, environment, safety, hygiene and staff health.

The nursery has been involved in the Healthy Pre-schools Scheme since 2012 and has received resources, training and advice from the scheme to support their good work.

The playgroup has promoted physical activity, cooking skills, hygiene procedures, and healthy eating and social skills using circle time with the children in their care.

Manager Karen Holmes said: “We are glad to be part of such an important scheme as we believe the health and happiness of the children is extremely important and through early intervention we give children the best possible start to having a healthy future”

Helen Lewis, healthy schools and healthy pre-schools practitioner for Ceredigion said: “We are delighted that Cylch Meithrin Aberteifi has completed all aspects of this health award.

“This achievement demonstrates how the Healthy and Sustainable Pre-schools Scheme is enabling Public Health Wales to work in equal partnership with nurseries to improve the future health and wellbeing of our children. By combining our efforts and assets in a purposeful way, we can create a healthier, happier and fairer Wales.”

The Healthy and Sustainable Pre-schools Scheme is delivered by Public Health Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government.
