CARDIGAN Art Society has been selected from hundreds of entries to exhibit five works at the prestigious Patchings Art Festival in July 2017.

The Society’s works will be judged alongside those of art societies and groups from all over the UK in the competition ‘Art Club of the Year 2017’ in association with The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines.

The annual Patchings event, held in Nottinghamshire, England, is one of the UK’s most celebrated arts and crafts festivals, attracting more than 15,000 visitors from all over the world.

It hosts more than 250 renowned artists and crafts people demonstrating, exhibiting and selling their work. This year’s guest artists include Ken Howard OBE and David Bellamy.

Our local artists Jan Brown, David Clinch, John Edwards, Clare ‘CHOC’ Howell and Helen Rowlands were selected to represent Cardigan because of the diversity of styles and mediums they work in, reflecting the open membership of the Society.

Clare said: “This is a huge honour for the Society, which was established back in 1964. We are delighted to be able to put Cardigan firmly on the art map and how wonderful, especially following the recent success of Cardigan Castle in Channel 4’s Renovation of the Year competition.”

Cardigan Art Society members exhibit regularly throughout the year, both individually and as a collective. They also have a permanent exhibition space within Cardigan Castle with a rolling display of works on local and Welsh cultural themes.

This year brings a new initiative: working with the Trustees of Cardigan Castle the Society has launched an annual Digital Drawing Competition awarding £500 prize money from Society funds. This will be open to all Welsh students in full-time education.
