‘FRIENDLY’ warning notes are being placed on cars illegally parked in Newcastle Emlyn.

Problems with illegal parking in the town centre along Sycamore Street and College Street often cause congestion and tailbacks throughout the town, while also restricting access for the emergency services.

Drivers who say they are simply ‘popping to the shops for two or three minutes’ can often bring the town to a complete standstill as other traffic then struggles to get through.

Police have issued warnings and are now putting notices on cars, in both Welsh and English, warning people not to park there but patience is running thin and tickets will soon be issued.

PC Kelly Williams told a meeting of Newcastle Emlyn Town Council: “We are handing out the notices in the hope that people provide us with a bit of co-operation.”

Contact has also been made with delivery companies for both Boots and the Co-op to try to time their deliveries to arrive earlier in the town.

Cllr Hazel Evans also raised the problem of speeding cars in the town.

She said: “I actually saw one car come out of the Mart car park and past the police station with someone on the bonnet. I could not believe it.”
