AN email complaining that a cheque written in Welsh by Cardigan Town Council would not be accepted by a bank drew a strong response from town clerk Wynford Jones.
He fired off a terse reply, expressing his surprise and pointing out that the Welsh language had been correctly used and there had never been any problems before. The cheque subsequently went through the clearing system without a problem.
Cllr John Adam-Lewis told a meeting of Cardigan Town Council: “We have to be firm and stand up and be counted in the use of our language.
“We live in Wales and our language is Welsh. The fact the cheque was sent back and went through proves those fears were rubbish.”
