THE annual Mayor-making ceremony took place at Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn in the town and the new Mayor for Newcastle Emlyn, Cllr Peter Lewis and Mayoress Sharon Lewis were presented with their chains of office. The Deputy Mayor is Cllr Cefin Evans.
Certificates of success were awarded to several people in the area for their achievements in 2017 including dressage rider Sally Leppard-Howell (Ysgol y Ddwylan); Peter Williams for looking after the town and keeping it clean, ‘Team Lightning’ (Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn) for representing Wales in the FIRST World Lego competition in America and winning the national Lego League Competition.
Representatives of Newcastle Emlyn Girls Under 16 Football Club were awarded a certificate for being in the Welsh Cup Final 2017 and winning the FA Wales Interleague tournament, along with Cllr Cefin Evans, Team Enduro Vintage Motor Bikes for being a member of Team GB and winning the gold medal for Wales in the Vintage Twin Shock Bikes competition in Spain.
