THE road between Cardigan and St Dogmaels has been branded ‘dangerous’ and councillors are now looking at ways to try to improve the situation.

Cllr Catrin Miles told a meeting of Cardigan Town Council that she had been holding talks with Ceredigion District Council regarding the narrow stretch of road at Brecon Terrace.

“There is a wish on both sides that we do something about the pavement,” she said.

“It is very dangerous and it is very easy to say there has been no accident but we don’t want an accident. We want it to be safe. People do fly down Brecon Terrace.”

Cllr Miles added that may years ago, there had been an opportunity to buy some land alongside the glass houses to build a footpath and make the road safe but that ultimately came to nothing.

“There are funds available and we have to develop a scheme,” she said. “Working alongside St Dogmaels, we have to ensure there is a safe road from Cardigan along to Poppit Sands. So many people walk, camp and cycle in that area, while children come and go to school along that route.

“It has to be safe for them to use.”

Cllr Miles also raised concerns about the main A487 Fishguard Road at Ridgeway roundabout.

“Cars come down there at 60mph and is another area that needs to be looked at,” she added.

Any proposed changes or traffic measures here would have to go to the Welsh Government's economy and infrastructure minister Ken Skates as it is a main trunk road.
