THERE was some nervous candidates pacing around Aberaeron Leisure Centre as the count began for the Ceredigion constituency at 10pm.

The wet weather earlier in the day had certainly not put off the voters with a high turnout of 73.38 per cent.

And first indications were that it could be a close run thing.

The seat was won by Liberal Democrat Mark Williams at the last election but as the first votes were counted, party officials on all sides felt it was too close to call.

Plaid Cymru’s Ben Lake, Labour’s Dinah Mulholland and Conservative Ruth Davis were all fancying their chances.
