AN injured woman was airlifted from Carningli on the Preseli Hills, above Newport, on Wednesday (May 31).
The Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue Team, along with members of the Brecon Beacons and Central Beacons rescue teams, started the 200-mile round trip after receiving the callout to an injured female hill walker shortly before 11am.
The Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue Team stated: “The team received a request for assistance from Welsh Ambulance Service via Dyfed Powys Police for help to evacuate an injured female hill walker on a hillside above Newport.”
Poor weather conditions had made the airlift difficult.
“With low cloud making helicopter evacuation unlikely, the team alongside colleagues from Brecon Mountain Rescue Team and Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team responded to the call,” the statement added.
“Thankfully, while Mountain Rescue units were still en-route, the cloud lifted enough to allow the Maritime and Coastguard Helicopter, Rescue 187, from St Athan to extract the casualty.
“Our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the lady involved.”
