ROAD improvements are set to be carried out around Cardigan Secondary School.

Ceredigion County Council has recently been awarded transport grant funding from three Welsh Government funds totalling £354,800 for 2017-2018.

A Local Transport Fund grant of £98,500 has been awarded to undertake ‘Year 2’ improvements in Cardigan, with match-funding contributions from Cardigan Town Council of £5,000 and Ceredigion County Council of £11,500, which provides a funding total of £115,000 for the scheme.

Following on from the improvements undertaken near Cardigan Primary School during 2016-17, there are now new proposals for traffic calming and footway improvements in the vicinity of the Secondary School.

Further footway improvements will also be undertaken to complete the footway link to the B&M Store on Aberystwyth Road in the town.

A further Welsh Government fund - the Road Safety Revenue grant - has allocated £57,000 to Ceredigion County Council which will help to fund a number of road safety initiatives undertaken by the Road Safety Team throughout the year.

These initiatives include Kerbcraft Training to help youngsters learn road safety awareness and Cycle Safety Training, which provides Year 6 pupils with the skills to cycle safely on the highway.

Pass Plus Cymru is a scheme that provides better driving skills for young people aged between 17 and 25, and a Motorcyclist Training Scheme provides riders with additional training to help reduce the number of motorbike accidents.
