AN inquest has been opened into the death of sailor Arthur Roy Taylor, whose body was found on the beach between Llangranog and Ynys Lochtyn on April 30.

Ninety-year-old Mr Taylor, commonly known as Archie, was last seen at approximately 9.30am on Saturday, April 15, when he took his boat out to sea off Gwbert boat club.

He was reported missing that evening after he failed to return. His small boat was found in Cardigan without anyone on board. The Coastguard rescue helicopter from Caernarfon, along with Cardigan, Gwbert and Moylegrove Coastguard Rescue Teams were all called out.

Both RNLI lifeboats from Cardigan were involved in the extensive search, along with their Fishguard colleagues and Dyfed-Powys Police. However, Mr Taylor was not found until his body washed up on the shore two weeks later.

Evidence of identification was taken from DNA profiling and the inquest into the death of Mr Taylor, from Rossendale, Lancashire, was adjourned by Peter Brunton, senior coroner for Ceredigion, to a date to be fixed.
