TWO truckers from a Crymych transport firm have been hailed as ‘Knights of the Road’ for helping other drivers who were in trouble.

Firstly, directors at Frenni Transport were thrilled to hear from Northamptonshire police who were singing the praises of driver Chris Lamport.

Police had managed to stop a HGV vehicle being driven erratically on the M1 to find the driver unwell and immediately taken to hospital but this left his heavy goods vehicle stranded on the motorway.

With recovery services more than three hours away police hailed the services of passing Frenni driver Chris, who parked his own HGV safely and helped the police by driving the stranded HGV to safe parking.

Police were so grateful for Chris' help and cheerful attitude they went to great efforts to contact Frenni Transport to pass on their thanks and to ensure the driver received the recognition he deserved.

Secondly, a letter arrived from Mrs Bradbury, from Nottinghamshire, singing the praises of another Frenni driver, Leyton Jones, for his quick thinking in protecting her and her husband after their car hit the central reservation on the M5, leaving them stuck in the outside lane.

Leyton used his lorry to protect them from traffic until the emergency services arrived. Mrs Bradbury's letter went on to say, “He was a real Knight of the Road. I wish to thank him from the bottom of my heart. He is an absolute credit to your company, a totally commendable driver, and a first-class human being.”

“Their letter left us all with lumps in our throats” said Frenni director Sarah Passant. “They were so grateful for his calm reassurance and help in calling the police.”

Frenni Transport has been going since 1977 and now employs 60 people.

Mathew Parry, managing director said “What a great ending to a busy week. I am very proud of our team.

“They all work so hard to give a great delivery service but are willing to help those in need or trouble. I have always thought of our drivers as “Knights of the Road” and am glad others think so too.”
