COMMUNITY councillors in Aberporth are to stop providing dog poo bags on the village footpaths.
The initiative, which started a few years ago, was widely praised as part of the ongoing fight against dog fouling.
But councillors soon found the cost of providing the free bags mounting up. And they were dismayed when some people abused the system, taking scores of bags for their own use.
Councillors argued that any responsible dog owner would take their own bag with them.
Cllr Gethin James – who reported a woman who let her dog foul – said it was vital people reported irresponsible owners.
“Without people prepared to report and identify people there is little the dog warden can do,” he said.
