FOUR ladies have set the bar high this summer by tackling T? Hafan’s Welsh3Peaks Challenge to raise money for the children’s charity.

Kate Morgan, Nicola Morgan, Kate Williams and Lizzie Dykes, from the Llangrannog and New Quay areas, will climb Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-y-Fan, the three highest mountains in north, mid and south Wales, and all within 15 hours on Saturday June 17.

The distance is a gruelling 20.35 miles with a total ascent of 9,397ft (2,864m) to get the heart racing.

The charity organising the event is T? Hafan, one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities which offers care to children and support for their families, throughout Wales.

The four friends have never undertaken a challenge like it and are novice mountain climbers.

Kate Morgan, who came up with the idea said, “Last year we all took part in T? Hafan’s 5km Rainbow Run but this year I thought we could do more.

“We are lucky to have 10 healthy children between us but others aren’t as lucky so this will make a difference to other families’ lives.

“After attending a recent talk about the Welsh3Peaks Challenge, I now understand that it is going to be just that, a challenge and a hard one! But also it is going to be very rewarding after listening to stories from T? Hafan, who will benefit from us climbing these mountains.

“It has now made us much more determined to complete it and get as many sponsors as we can, even if it's just the change from your pocket.”

Lizzie Dykes added, “We have set a target of £1,000 and we are already over half way which is excellent. We are now counting down the weeks to the challenge and training is well under way and we are setting our sights on those mountains.”

Kate Williams, talking about their friendship said, “We are four close friends and completing this challenge will be a huge lifetime achievement with the added benefit of supporting others who are not so fortunate.

“We will also have the full support of our families, including our children who are taking part in this year’s Rainbow Run to raise extra funds.”

Nicola Morgan wanted to thank everyone for their support, “Everyone has been so supportive and now we are getting nervous but excited. We would also like to say a big thank you to our designated driver, Kate’s husband, Rhydian. Without him we couldn’t even attempt this challenge.”
