CROWDS of visitors have flocked to Cardigan Castle in the wake of its Channel 4 Restoration of the Year win.

The castle has had one of its busiest fortnights, with visitors peaking at more than 300 a day during the Easter weekend.

There were also bumper crowds at the castle’s medieval day on Wednesday April 19.

The castle’s special £5 local pass offer was also eagerly taken up, with more than 700 sold during the six week offer period.

Bookings for the site’s five star holiday accommodation have been also been brisk with some of the units now fully booked for the summer.

Congratulations and messages of support have also been pouring in from all over Wales and further beyond.

“We have been completely overwhelmed by the response,” said castle facilities officer Sue Lewis.

“Nearly everyone who has come through the door has seen the Channel 4 programme and have expressed their delight at our win.

“We are confident that this summer will be even busier, not only for us but the entire town.”

The castle is always looking for volunteers to help with events – contact info@cardigancastle.com or ask at the castle reception.

The castle’s next event is a Georgian Day on Bank Holiday Monday. The event is free to castle passholders or £5 adults, £3 children.
