Llechryd got off to a flyer on the opening day in the Pembroke County Cricket League Division Two with a 93-run win over Carew 2nds at Castell Malgwyn.

Having first use of a good batting track, the Teifisiders posted 171-6 in their 45 overs with opener Johnnie Lewis (41) and vastly-experienced left-hander Steve Smith (45) the main contributors.

Dai Rees snapped four wickets for the visitors with his medium-pacers and also contributed 49 runs when they replied.

Carew were never up with the required run rate and lost wickets at regular intervals as they were dismissed for 78 with veteran seam bowler Peter Betterley picking up four wickets for 17 runs. Llechryd banked 29 points.

Llechryd 2nds couldn't emulate the firsts as they sank to an eight wicket away defeat against Crymych whose hero was Mark Thomas with an unbeaten 61 and three wickets for five runs. The Preselimen picked up 28 points.
