The Carmarthenshire property searched in the wake of the London terror attack belongs to the attacker's mother, the Tivyside understands.

Police visited the home of Khalid Masood's mother along with properties in Birmingham and London on Thursday, March 23.

Detectives are still piecing together the history of Masood, a 52-year-old ex-convict who used a string of aliases and reportedly converted to Islam in his later life.

Officers say eight arrests have been made following searches in Carmarthenshire, Birmingham and London.

However, officers have said that nobody living at the Carmarthenshire property was a suspect.

Dyfed-Powys Police said it is "increasing patrols", adding the public may also see "an armed presence at certain large events".

A spokeswoman for the force said: "The Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit, supported by officers of Dyfed-Powys Police, have provided assistance to The Metropolitan Police, following yesterday's incident in London.

"In doing this, they have conducted a search of one property in Carmarthenshire - this search has concluded.

"The occupants are receiving appropriate support.

“They are not suspects and have not been arrested."

The spokesman said there was no threat to the area.

PC Keith Palmer along with Aysha Frade, who worked at a London college, American tourist Kurt Cochran, 54, from Utah, and 75-year-old Leslie Rhodes from Steatham, south London, were killed as a result of the attack on Wednesday afternoon.

Fifty people have been confirmed as injured, with 31 requiring hospital treatment.
