A horticultural worker from Newcastle Emlyn who crashed his car into a hedge has admitted drink-driving at Aberystwyth Justice Centre.

Rhys Davies Williams, 22, from Penrhiwllan, was driving home after a night out at the pub when he crashed his BMW during the early hours of November12, the court heard.

Police received reports of a road accident at 12.45am, but when they arrived at the scene they found blood on the car but no driver.

The officers traced the vehicles details eventually located Mr Williams at his brother's house.

He immediately admitted to driving the car.

A breathalyser test revealed Mr Williams had 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

The court heard that Williams had drunk four pints of Grolsch lager between 7pm and his leaving the pub.

He claimed he had also drunk a further half-pint at his brother's home after the incident.

Magistrates banned Williams from driving for 18 months and fined him £140.

He was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £35 victim surcharge.
