A 12-HOUR Santa Spinathon will take place in Newcastle Emlyn on Friday, November 25, when fitness trainer Wayne Hoyland and friends will pedal hard to raise money for Cylch Meithrin Drefach.

The event won’t be the only event on Friday and Saturday though, as members of the Newcastle Emlyn Traders Group join together in a two-day winter celebration and your help is needed!

Members of the Newcastle Emlyn Traders Group have been hard at it dreaming up ideas to entice people to visit and shop in the town.

They are keen to create a festive atmosphere as a warm-up to the annual Victorian Night held on Wednesday, December 7, and have decided to encourage buskers to come along and entertain the crowds in the Buskers Booth / Cornel Canu.

Newcastle Emlyn Traders Group chairman Jill Sutton said: “We are a committed group and we want to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere to our town.

"The town is made up of small independent shops and it’s not easy.

"There’s a lot of evidence that many shops like ours are finding it difficult and uncertain, so we are always looking at ways of increasing income footfall for the town from a trader’s perspective.”

To entice more shoppers, Carmarthenshire county council has agreed to two days of free parking on November 25 and 26, and Friday will see choirs from Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn and Y Ddwylan singing on the high street to celebrate the grand switching on of the Christmas lights. On Saturday, Menter Gorllewin Sir Gar will organise a Christmas Craft Corner especially for the children and this coincides with a craft fair at Cawdor Hall.
