A CARDIGAN cannabis dealer tried to throw away a bag of drugs after being sniffed out by police.

Officers had gone to the home of Dean Peter Thomas for an entirely different matter.

But once there they could smell cannabis and told Thomas, aged 21, to hand over a bag he was holding.

He tried to throw it out of a window but the bag was recovered.

Swansea crown court heard that it contained 25 wraps of cannabis and weighing scales. And an examination of his mobile telephone revealed messages that were clearly about drug sales he had made.

Thomas, of Golwg Castell, admitted possessing 30 grams of cannabis with intent to supply.

John Hipkin, prosecuting, said police also recovered £90 in cash.

Thomas’ barrister, Janet Gedrych, said he had turned to cannabis to help him deal with various difficulties in his life and had sold some to friends to help cover the cost.

Thomas was jailed for eight months, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 25 sessions of a rehabilitation activity.

Judge Geraint Walters told Thomas that if they met again he would go to jail.

“I don’t want to see you in a criminal court again and neither do your family. If you don’t get a grip you will have a miserable life,” he told Thomas.

Judge Walters confiscated the £90.
