Sports organisations and worthy causes are set to receive a total of £9,000 from Cardigan & District Pool League.

Since the league was formed 30 years ago cueists have raised and donated in excess of £80,000 to local charities and good causes.

That amount is to be swollen on Friday at a belated presentation function for last season held at Cardigan Rugby Club.

Included in the list of 18 cheque recipients is Cardigan MS Oxygen Therapy Centre at Pentood Estate which was highlighted in last week’s Tivyside as in need of donations.

The charity treats adults and children with MS, cancer, MND, autism, cerebral palsy and many other illnesses and totally relies on local support to raise the £35,000 a year needed to keep the centre open.

Pool league fixture secretary Alan Lewis said “Once again we are absolutely delighted to help so many worthy local causes and I’m sure many people will come along to the get-together on Friday.”

The evening, which includes a buffet and features popular musician ‘DJ Dan’ providing entertainment free of charge, starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available from Alan Lewis (tel. 01239 621999) or Jamie Bowen (tel. 01239 613276).
